How to Fix the Mindset That’s Sabotaging Your Progress
Ever have one of those weeks where you just want to light your business on fire and walk away?
Where you’ve done everything right — followed the training, set up your ads, sent your emails — and still, it feels like nothing’s working?
You’re not broken.
You’re just human.
And this week on the podcast, I talked with my longtime coach Krista Williamson to break down what’s really going on when business feels hard — and how to manage your mindset so you can move forward instead of spinning out.
Mindset Isn’t Woo-Woo — It’s a Tool
For years, I dismissed mindset as something fluffy — “sit in a chair and wait for the universe to drop a million dollars on your head.”
But as it turns out, mindset isn’t magical thinking. It’s a skill.
It’s how you manage your thoughts so you can show up as the leader your business needs.
Because your brain will always offer you unhelpful thoughts.
It’s wired to keep you safe, not successful.
The trick is learning to pause, question those thoughts, and decide which ones to keep.
When You’re Frustrated with Your Ad Results
You followed the steps.
You set up your ads.
You spent the money.
And… it’s not working.
Cue panic.
This is where most store owners start spiraling:
“Maybe I’m not good at this.”
“Maybe my product isn’t right.”
“Maybe I should just stop.”
Here’s what Krista says to do instead:
👉 Reset your expectations.
Most things don’t work perfectly the first time — even for experienced marketers.
👉 Don’t make it personal.
You are not your results. Ads are experiments. The only goal is to learn what works next.
👉 Pause before reacting.
When frustration hits, stop. Take a breath. Then go look at the data.
Ask:
- Is this a traffic problem or a conversion problem?
- What’s actually working here that I’m missing?
That pause between panic and problem-solving?
That’s mindset at work.
When Hiring Help Doesn’t Go as Planned
You finally hire help — a VA, a social media manager, maybe an ads pro.
You hand things off.
And the results are… disappointing.
So you fix it yourself.
Or fire them and start over.
Sound familiar?
Here’s the mindset shift:
You’re not buying a solution. You’re hiring a tool to help you build one.
Even the best contractor needs clear direction.
They can’t read your mind — or your brand voice — without context.
Your job as the business owner is to show them what “done” looks like.
That takes time and feedback. But every round of feedback is progress.
When You Feel Like You’re Just Not Good at This
You’ve been at it for a few years.
You’ve worked hard, done the trainings, tried every strategy.
But sales still aren’t where you want them.
It’s tempting to think:
“I’m failing.”
“I’ll never figure this out.”
But that’s not true — that’s a thought.
The facts might be:
- Your conversion rate is solid.
- Your traffic is low.
- You just need more of what’s already working.
When you separate facts from feelings, you can make decisions that move you forward instead of keeping you stuck.
“Take yourself by the hand. Calm your brain. Focus on what’s true, and choose what’s helpful.”
You Can’t Buy a Shortcut
So many entrepreneurs think:
“If I just buy the right course / hire the right person / try this new app… THEN I’ll finally fix it.”
But you can’t buy a solution in a box. Growth is a process.
You can buy tools, guidance, and support — but you are still the driver. And once you realize that, you’ll stop chasing fixes and start building something sustainable.

Optional.
Every tough moment?
Temporary.
You can’t avoid the messy middle. But with the right mindset, you can move through it calmly, thoughtfully, and without burning it all down.
